Red Between is one of three very similar but not identical sculptures, the others are Blue Between & Yellow Between. It was removed from the entrance to the Sydney Jones Library in 2006 during building work but it has been decided that it will be re-sited in The Quadrangle, the open space behind The Victoria Building. Presently it is not expected to appear in its new home until 2009. Phillip King was born in Tunisia in 1934, arrived in England in 1945, and studied modern languages at Cambridge University from 1954 to 1957. He began to make sculpture during his time at university and from 1957 to 1958 studied sculpture at St Martin's School of Art, where Anthony Caro was teaching.
